A US-based medical professional, Marshal Umoren, has indicated his readiness to respond to Governor Umo Eno's call on Akwa Ibom Indigenes overseas to deploy their resources for accelerated development in their state of origin.
Umoren, who made the disclosure through a statement made available to THE NEWS ACCELERATOR NETWORK, said his firm, The High Tower Holdings, also located in America, is about to partner with the Akwa Ibom State Government on health sector development.
With a specific interest in cardiovascular health, The High Tower Holdings, as indicated in the statement, “has pledged to collaborate with the Akwa Ibom State Government to float a centre of heart health treatment and emergency in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.”
Explaining further, the statement said: “We can assist in upgrading and fixing the sector, especially in the area of cardiovascular health.”
It would be recalled that recently, Governor Eno, while visiting the Akwa Ibom community in Nashville, Tennessee, had called on diaspora-based Akwa Ibom citizens to consider the deployment of their resources as their quota to growing the home economy.
He said the concern of The High Tower Holdings is based on its recent assessment of the Akwa Ibom State health sector and its growing medical industry.
Making known their assessment, Umoren said: “The High Tower Holdings had identified the noticeable absence of requisite heart health services in the state.”
Assuring the firm's preparation to facilitate the establishment of such a centre, Umoren suggested that “with strong collaboration expected from the Akwa Ibom State Government, it is achievable.”
He added: "The comprehensive heart centre will positively impact doctors, nurses, paramedics and would-be patients and victims of heart-related ailments.
"The project potential would yield long-term social and economic benefits to the society, as well as provide access to technology-driven medicare for the people.
“Aside from catering for people in the state, the centre would curb medical tourism abroad and boost intensive heart health medical delivery through training, in addition to the support it would attract from highly trained personnel designed to be drawn from reputable global institutions.”
Umoren also enumerated other benefits of the project including inclusive professional growth, competency, job empowerment for practitioners, and the enhancement of quality of practice and delivery within the state public health sector.
Given the increased risk of heart disease, which has led to the high prevalence of sudden death rates among the populace, Umoren has expressed hope that the Akwa Ibom state government would consider collaborating with his organization by approving the siting of the heart centre in the state.
