Public sector leaders, policymakers, and Stakeholders within the Public sector across the continent are gearing up to forge new paths toward sustainable development at the 5th edition of the Africa Public Sector Conference & Awards set to be held in Botswana from 2nd October to 4th October 2024 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC).
The latest Africa Sustainable Development report calls for accelerated efforts to ensure that Africa achieves its global goals by the 2030 deadline.
The attainment of sustainable development is at the heart of all stakeholders globally, ranging from the civil society, communities, private sector, public sector and development partners.
However, the role played by the public sector is by far more crucial in establishing the fabric of development variable relationships and serving as a catalyst of meaningful engagement and participation of the demand side in shaping decisions on issues affecting them.
To effectively establish a sustainable-driven development, the public sector needs to realign itself through reformation strategies.
It is to this end that the 5th edition of the Africa Public Sector has been themed Promoting Innovation for Sustainable Development.
APSCA 2024, a premier forum for civil servants, public sector leaders, policymakers, industry experts, government officials and stakeholders, will explore new ideas and techniques geared towards Sustainable Development Goals in societies to ensure a sustainable future for upcoming generations.
More specifically, the participants will be discussing and addressing issues related to innovation in public service, environment, energy, power and digital technologies, local governments, water management, green economy, civil service reforms, and women in public service and governance.
A selected group of private leading businesses offering innovative solutions to the public sector will also be a part of these discussions, sharing insights on their impacts and innovation in the public sector ecosystem.
The last day of the thought-provoking event will lift the veil on top-performing leaders, agencies, ministries, governors, mayors civil servants and private organisations who are bringing innovation and transformation to the African citizenry during a high-profile awards night.
Recognition and accolades serve as a motivation to human nature, hence the need to lift the veil on top-performing leaders who have showcased excellence in policy innovation and exceptional leadership at various levels of governance.
This will raise the benchmark of excellence among public office holders and civil servants; Mr Akin Naphtal, Group Publisher of the Public Sector Global Magazine, disclosed this in a press statement.
Achieving a resilient and sustainable economy will take a collective commitment by stakeholders and decision-makers of African countries alongside development partners and the private sector to massively scale up resources dedicated to building the foundations of a vibrant, inclusive and safe digital economy throughout the continent.
It will need leadership and a vision to push the frontiers of innovation so that Africa can own its 21st century, he added.
APSCA 2024 has also been endorsed by the Public Service Commission, Ghana.
Since the maiden edition hosted in Rwanda in 2018, the Africa Public Sector Conference & Awards has played a key role in driving thought leadership, innovation, and development in the public sector.
Its unique ability to convene leaders from across the continent has facilitated discussions on pertinent issues relating to growth and sustainability.
From hosting its first edition in Rwanda, second and third editions in Ghana and the fourth edition, respectively, in Kenya, Botswana is the destination to celebrate and host the 5th edition.
