Jurisdiction: Court Fines Multichoice Nigeria N150m

As Tribunal Orders Free DSTV, GoTV Subscription To Customers

The Justice Thomas Okosu-led panel of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal, CCPT, today, directed Multichoice Nigeria to give subscribers on the DStv and GOtv platforms one month of free subscription.

It would be recalled that the CCPT had stopped Multichoice Nigeria Limited from increasing its subscription tariffs and cost of products and services scheduled to begin on May 1, 2024.

The panel also fined Multichoice Nigeria N150 million for questioning the jurisdiction of the court, which recently restrained it from increasing the prices of its DStv and GOtv packages.

In May, Multichoice Nigeria increased the subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv packages despite the orders of the tribunal.
