Sports Minister Wants GTI To Extend Transformation To Other Sports

GTI Assets Management and Trust Limited, strategic partners of the NFF, has been charged to consider extending the transformation it has brought to the NPFL to other sports.

The Minister for Sports Development, Senator John Owan-Enoh gave the charge on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the official announcement/partnership agreement signing of the President Federation Cup, the most glamorous and oldest football competition in the country, formerly known as Federation Cup.

Senator Owan-Enoh who commended GTI for the breadth of freshness injected in the NPFL, expressed the optimism that such would be replicated in the President Federation Cup.

According to the Minister, “I am pleased with what GTI has achieved with the NPFL. Their proposal and impressive track record as a leading investment banking firm in Nigeria with expertise in sports management and development convinced us of their suitability for this partnership.

“I am confident that this collaboration between the NFF, GTI and the Ministry of Sports Development will restore glory, increase viewership and breathe new life into the President Federation Cup.

“With the signing of this agreement with GTI, we aim to re-establish the renamed competition in the national and international football calendar, involving grassroots teams, creating employment for approximately 500,000 Nigerians, engaging over 100,000,000 football enthusiasts; rejuvenating talent pipelines, fostering national pride and showcasing Nigeria’s greatness globally.”

The Group Managing Director of GTI, Abubakar Lawal, in his address, noted that the GTI has kick-started the transformation journey of taking Nigerian football to the next level with the firm's involvement as a strategic partner to the NFF in the Federation Cup.

In his words: “It is our vision that the oldest domestic football event becomes one of the best-organized football events in the world in no distant future.”

In appreciating GTI for another bold step aimed at placing Nigeria football on the global map, the President of Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, expressed happiness with GTI for changing the face of the Nigerian Premier League even as he expressed the hope that the involvement of the company in the Federation Cup will bring back the lost glory of the competition.
