Rivers Guber Poll: Fubara Floors Cole At Supreme Court

The election of Siminalayi Fubara as Rivers State governor was on Thursday, January 25, 2024, affirmed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The Apex Court decided after it dismissed the appeal of Tonye Cole and the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Fubara’s election.

The court, which specifically declared that the petition was lacking in merit, held that the appellant did not prove the allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Act, among others.

The Supreme Court equally held that the appeal was incompetent, and the same was dismissed.

It would be recalled that Cole, the APC governorship candidate in the March 18, 2023 election, had challenged the victory of Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the ground that he did not resign as the Accountant General of Rivers State before the election.

Cole had equally cited alleged irregularities, non-compliance with the Electoral Act, and corrupt practices, among others.
