Five-Year Sentence Of Farouk Lawan Sustained By Supreme Court

OTEDOLA & LAWAN

The five year sentence of former House of Representatives member, Farouk Lawan, for receiving a bribe of $500,000 from businessman Femi Otedola, was on Friday, January 26, 2024, confirmed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

It would be recalled that Lawan’s appeal before the apex court has sought to throw out the February 24, 2022 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which sentenced him to a five-year jail term and discharged him on two out of the three counts on the corruption charge brought against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN).

According to the lead judgment prepared by Justice John Okoro but read by Justice Tijjani Abubakar, the Supreme Court declared that Lawan’s appeal was without merit and the same was dismissed.
