Chidinma Ojukwu: Deceased Ataga's Drink Spiked, Witness Tells Court

A Lagos High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), presided over by Justice Yetunde Adesanya, was, yesterday, informed that the drink taken by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Super TV, Michael Ataga, was spiked.

The revelation came from the Lagos State Government (LASG) through its witness, DSP Olusegun Bamidele while testifying in the ongoing trial of Chidinma Ojukwu, a 300-level Mass Communication student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), who is standing trial alongside Adedapo Quadri and Chioma Egbuchu.

At the last hearing on the matter, Bamidele had hinted to the court that Ojukwu had confessed to spiking Ataga’s drink during his investigation, adding that he believed the first defendant’s confession.

But when the case came up for hearing on Monday, Quadri’s lawyer, Babatunde Busari, asked the witness to show where in the statements of the first and second defendants it was written that the deceased’s drink had been spiked before his death.

Responding, Bamidele stated that the same was established during the investigation.

The witness, who equally insisted that Ojukwu and the deceased Ataga smoked some substances and drank alcohol together, posited that the deceased and Ojukwu ordered more sets of the substance when the first set finished.

While stating that the 1st defendant had made the same known in her statement, Bamidele mentioned that it was a dispatch rider who delivered the additional substance that Ojukwu and the late Ataga smoked.

All efforts, according to the witness, to get the dispatch rider proved abortive.

After entertaining the cross-examination, Justice Adesanya adjourned until February 20 for continuation of the trial.

It would be recalled that Ojukwu alongside others were arraigned by the LASG on October 12, 2021.

Ojukwu and Quadri are facing the first two eight counts bordering on conspiracy, murder, and stabbing, while her sister, Egbuchu, is facing the ninth count of stealing an iPhone 7 belonging to the late Ataga.
