•As Judge Sends Convict To 2-Year-Jail-Term
A Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, presided over by Justice Nicholas Oweibo has convicted and sentenced a Brazil returnee, Akudirinwa Hilary Uchenna to two years imprisonment for trafficking in 13.2 kilograms of Cocaine.
The judge decided after finding Uchenna guilty as charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Justice Oweibo who also ordered the convict to pay a fine option of N3 million, however, ordered the convict’s jail term should commence from when he was arraigned.
The judge equally directed that the sum of N3.352 million, domiciled In Zenith Bank account number 2176669335, which was said to be proceeds of the illicit drug, be finally forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN).
It would be recalled that the 53-year-old convict had been standing trial since June 6, 2022, when he was arraigned on two counts charge of conspiracy and trafficking in the prohibited substance.

Whilst being arraigned, counsel for the NDLEA, Juliana Imaobong Iroabuchi, told Justice Oweibo that the convict was arrested with the banned substance on April 9, 2022, during the inward clearance of passengers on Qatar Airways from Brazil to Nigeria at the D – Arrival Hall of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja.
The lawyer had equally hinted to the court that he conspired with the duo of Chima and Enyi, who both reside in Brazil, to commit the Illicit acts, adding that the offence contravened Section 11(b) and 14(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
