Why Should Animals Be Used For Rituals?

Many people view killing animals by burning them while alive as part of their culture, regardless of whether the animal suffers or not.

A poor reflection of a brutal society and the lack of compassion we harbour as human beings. It is heartbreaking and appaling.

Such customs, traditions, or lifestyles should not be condoned in this day and age, especially in a country like Nigeria where animal welfare laws are not strong.

It is obvious that in some states, like Enugu in Nigeria, some people publicize themselves as chiefs to make money from animal killings, burning them alive, and using their blood for sacrifices.

Animals are not furniture that we easily overlook. How disheartening it must be for a dog that is tied up in chains instead of having the freedom to move, stop and sniff, for the birds going mad in their cages, the rabbits in cramped spaces, sheep, and goats burnt alive and roasted. This should never be tolerated.

Animals have suffered too much in Nigeria. They are kept in deplorable conditions, dragging themselves through their waste, kept outside without shelter, left to suffer horribly from untreated wounds, experiencing hunger, and suffering from rituals — all these while being unable to communicate the pain.

The movement for animal safety in Nigeria should be attended to because they also have feelings, and emotions and deserve to be secured.
