The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), AbdulRasheed Bawa, was on Wednesday directed to proceed on an indefinite suspension from office.
The directive was issued by the President and Commander-In-Chief, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, sequel to weighty allegations of abuse of office.
In a statement by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the President ordered Bawa’s suspension to allow for a proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
It would be recalled that there had been many weighty allegations against the anti-corruption boss, including an allegation by the former governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle.
Specifically, the former governor had claimed that Bawa demanded $2million dollars from him and that he had the man on tape.
Meanwhile, Willie Bassey, Director of Information said Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission.
The director will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.
