Lagos CJ Goes Emotional Over Burnt Igbosere High Court

  • Begs LASG For Speedy Reconstruction

Justice Kazeem Alogba, the incumbent Chief Judge (CJ) of Lagos State, on Monday broke down in emotions with a request that the government of Lagos State should without any further delay commence the reconstruction of the burnt High Court of Lagos State sitting in Igbosere.

Requesting while giving his vote of thanks at the opening of the 2022/2023 Legal Year of the Lagos State Judiciary at the Lagos Central Mosque, Lagos Island, Justice Alogba condemned the destruction of the Igbosere High Court, with an insistence that it was a monumental edifice that must be revived.

The CJ said: “The judiciary will only function effectively when it is devoid of state and public interference in adjudicating justice delivery.

“The sure way the judiciary can discharge its responsibility without fear or favour is when it is truly independent.”

In his response to the demand made by the CJ, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said it is a function of budget. Represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, the Governor revealed that a Trust Fund has been set up to commence its assignment with the reconstruction of the Igbosere High Court Complex.
