A battalion of about 30 fully armed policemen, said to have been dressed in camouflage and normal police uniform, were on Friday alleged to have invaded the headquarters of the Benin BEDC Electricity Plc, with about 8 vehicles.
The action was alleged to have been executed for the Edo State Government on the vehicles to take over the offices of BEDC and claiming forceful mandate given to install one Henry Ajagbawa as Managing Director, beyond the law.
The execution was said to have taken place at about 6:15 pm after the close of work on Friday when most staff members had left the office and despite a subsisting order of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria, in Suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/1113/2022 in which Mr Ajagbawa, K. C. Akuma, Adeola Ijose, Charles Onwera and Yomi Adeyemi were restrained from parading themselves as Directors of BEDC Electricity Plc.
The mentioned order of the court also restrained a financial institution and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission from taking over the business and premises of BEDC.
It was gathered that the private security men guarding the premises were threatened with forced arrest if they did not allow entry, while the armed policemen positioned themselves in combat formation.
