A pathologist with Premier Hospital will be cross-examined virtually.
This was the position of Magistrate Mukaila Fadeyi, a coroner in the ongoing inquest into the death of a Lagos-based Chef, Peju Ugboma, sitting at the Magistrates’ Court in Ogba, Lagos State.
Magistrate Fadeyi consequently fixed August 22, 2022, for the virtual sitting to take place.
The inquest is seeking to unravel the circumstances of the death of the mother of two.
Ugboma passed on a few days after she was taken through fibroid surgery at the Premier Hospital in April 2021.
The family, in relying on an independent autopsy by pathologists at LASUTH indicated that Mrs Ugboma suffered internal bleeding after the surgical procedure.
It was also the position of the family that the deceased had about two litres of blood in her abdomen and pelvic area.
Magistrate Fadeyi during the hearing had requested: “If we still have voluntary witnesses who would be cross-examined virtually?”
The request prompted a counsel representing the hospital, Ambimbola Akeredolu, to confirm that the pathologist that represented the hospital during the autopsy had a report and that he is currently in Saudi Arabia and would like to testify.
