The Chairman, Lekki Phase 1 Residents’ Association, LERA, Yomi Idowu, has called on the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to come to the rescue of the residents, over the menace of Okada riders in Lekki Phase 1 and Lekki axis in general.
In a statement issued on Monday by the LERA Chairman titled, ‘OKADA RIDERS ARE CAUSING MAYHEM IN LEKKI PHASE 1 AND ENVIRONS’, Yomi Idowu said, “It is very unfortunate that the life of a promising Sound Engineer was lost through mob attack at Lekki Phase 1.
“I am appealing to all residents to please keep calm and stop spreading false news.
“After my visitation to Maroko Police Station to see the arrested suspects, what happened now is a bit clearer. We await the police to conclude their investigation and issue an official statement on it.
“We are appealing to the Lagos State Government again to come to our rescue on the menace of Okada riders in Lekki Phase 1 and Lekki axis in general.
“The Okada riders have taken over with confidence that they now don’t carry plate tags, ride against oncoming traffic on the expressway.
“It is very sad to know that Okada riders are banned in Kano State, Kaduna State and a few other northern states, but are free to unleash terror on us in Lagos.
“Lagos State Government announced the ban on Okada in Lagos but failed to enforce it since over one year ago.
“I am also calling on all residents of Lekki Phase 1 and all commercial outfits to support the security solution being embarked on by LERA to pay their security levies as it seems we are on our own.”
