Falana to Buhari: 'Pardon all thieves, corrupt persons in prison'

President Muhammadu Buhari has been charged to pardon all thieves and corrupt persons in prison.

The call came through Lagos-based lawyer, Femi Falana in the wake of the pardon granted to former Taraba State governor, Rev Jolly Nyame and Senator Joshua Dariye by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Falana who spoke as the guest lecturer at an event organised to celebrate the one-year remembrance of Late Yinka Odumakin and the launching of the Yinka Odumakin Foundation, held at Ikeja, Lagos state, specifically argued that the Buhari led administration can as well free all prisoners who have been jailed for stealing, corruption and related offences.

It would be recalled that the council of states had on Thursday granted a state pardon to Rev Jolly Nyame and Joshua Dariye who were jailed for corruption after the expiration of their tenure as governors of Taraba and Plateau States respectively.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) particular suggested that it is settled in the 1999 constitution that citizens are entitled to equal rights and opportunities and so the state pardon has to be extended to all prisons who are serving terms for stealing.
