Court Jails Five for Supplying Arms to Terrorists Behind Niger School Abduction

A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced five men, including two citizens of the Republic of Niger, to 25 years imprisonment each for providing logistical support to terrorists who abducted students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri Village, Niger State.

Justice Binta Nyako delivered the judgment after the defendants pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government

The prosecution team was led by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, alongside M.A. Oladunjoye, while Akilahyel Shetima represented the convicts.

The convicted men — Yusuf Mohammed (alias Bature), Goni Ibrahim Bindi (alias Goni Mutuwa), Sani Tukur (alias Danladi), Mubarak Ibrahim, and Musa Alhaji Adamu (alias Gado Banufe) — were found guilty of acting as arms couriers for Boko Haram.

They transported 15 AK-103 rifles and 1,434 rounds of live ammunition from the Diffa Region of the Niger Republic to the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The weapons, hidden in sacks and loaded into a blue Volkswagen Golf with Niger Republic registration number BT 9990 DA, were intercepted during a security operation along the Kano-Kaduna Express way. The court ordered the forfeiture of the vehicle to the Federal Government.

Investigations by the Department of State Services (DSS) linked the defendants to the November 21, 2025, attack on St. Mary’s Catholic School, where terrorists stormed the premises on motorcycles, abducting over 250 students and teachers. While some victims escaped, all abductees were eventually rescued on December 24, 2025.
