LAGOS, NIGERIA — In a powerful demonstration of inter-religious harmony, the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, is scheduled to commission a newly constructed mosque built by the renowned Nigerian cleric, Primate Elijah Ayodele, this Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The mosque, which was first unveiled on February 14, holds significant sentimental and national value, as it is named in honour of the late Madam Abibatu Mogaji, the legendary market leader and mother of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
For the Iyaloja-General, the ceremony is more than a formal event; it is a tribute to her grandmother’s enduring legacy.
While she was represented by a delegation of Iyalojas and Babalojas during the initial unveiling due to prior commitments, Tinubu-Ojo has confirmed her physical presence for Saturday’s grand commissioning.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the project, Primate Ayodele emphasised that the mosque was not a political statement, but a spiritual mandate.
“Building this mosque isn’t because I want attention or anything from anyone; it was a divine instruction that I cannot ignore. I am only answerable to God. Jesus Christ did not preach religion; He preached love. Being a religious fanatic will not take anyone to heaven,” Ayodele stated.
The commissioning follows a massive empowerment drive held during the Primate’s annual thanksgiving program last week.
Underscoring his message of contribution to humanity, the cleric distributed life-changing gifts, including: Five vehicles donated to journalists and church members, alongside tricycles and minibuses, WAEC scholarships for students and full accommodation payments for families in need, distribution of essential appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, mattresses, and televisions.
