In a historic shift for the global energy sector, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially reached full operational capacity.
Following a successful maintenance and optimisation cycle, the facility’s Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Motor Spirit (MS) block are now running at their full nameplate capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), a feat never before achieved by a single-train refinery.
The refinery has entered a rigorous 72-hour performance test phase in partnership with its technology licensor, UOP.
These tests serve as a final validation of the plant’s efficiency, ensuring that the facility meets the highest international engineering and safety standards under real-world operating conditions.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), David Bird highlighted that the seamless integration of the Naphtha Hydrotreater, Isomerisation, and Reformer units marks a turning point for the continent’s energy security.
“Our teams have demonstrated exceptional precision in stabilising these units. This milestone underscores the strength and reliability of our engineering.
“We are firmly on track to eliminate Nigeria’s import dependence and reposition the nation as a net exporter of petroleum products,” Bird stated.
