ABEOKUTA, NIGERIA — The Ogun State Government has recognised Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) as a pivotal driver of the state's industrial backbone, citing the conglomerate’s massive investments as a catalyst for regional competitiveness.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 15th Gateway International Trade Fair in Abeokuta, Governor Dapo Abiodun lauded the Pan-African group for its unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and nation-building."
The Governor, represented by the State Commissioner of Trade, Industry, and Investment, Mr Emmanuel Adebola Sofela, described the partnership between the state and the Group as a model for transformative governance.
"The Dangote Group is no longer just an investor but a trusted ally, one whose impact is visible in our economy, our communities, and the future we are building.
“Their visionary investments have not only strengthened Nigeria’s industrial backbone but have contributed immensely to the prosperity of Ogun State,” the Governor stated.
Ogun State has become a central hub for the Group’s operations. The state currently hosts the 12 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) Dangote Cement plant in Ibese.
Strengthening this footprint, a second plant with a 6 million mtpa capacity is currently under construction in Itori.
Governor Abiodun noted that these projects do more than manufacture cement; they create jobs, energise local supply chains, and reinforce Ogun’s reputation as the preferred destination for productive enterprise in West Africa.
Echoing the Governor’s sentiments, the President of the Ogun State Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA), Lion Niyi Oshiyemi, praised the Group’s consistent support for the organised private sector.
“The future belongs to those who build strong partnerships,” Oshiyemi remarked.
He emphasised that for 15 years, the Gateway Trade Fair has served as a bridge between innovation and the market, a feat made possible by partners who prioritise shared prosperity over isolated growth.
Oshiyemi further noted that OGUNCCIMA remains dedicated to enhancing the ease of doing business, ensuring that Ogun State maintains its lead as a commercial powerhouse.
