Court Orders Nationwide Manhunt for Businesswoman, Uyime Akpan, Over Alleged ₦28.5m Fraud

LAGOS, NIGERIA - The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi, Lagos, has secured an order of the Federal High Court to declare a fleeing businesswoman, Uyime Akpan, wanted over an alleged ₦28.5 million fraud.

The order was granted by Justice Friday Ogazi following an ex parte application filed by the Police Special Fraud Unit and marked FHC/L/MISC/1410/2025.

The application was filed and moved before the court by M. Y. Bello, the counsel for the PSFU.

Also listed as co-respondents in the suit are the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

In the motion, the PSFU urged the court to issue an order declaring Akpan wanted and to place her on the wanted list of the Nigeria Police Special Fraud Unit, located at 13 Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, until she is arrested and prosecuted.

The police further sought an order permitting the publication of the suspect’s name in national daily newspapers and on the official social media platforms of the Police Special Fraud Unit.

According to the application, such a publication is necessary to give effect to the declaration and enhance efforts to locate and arrest the suspect.

Moving the application, Bello informed the court that the motion was supported by an affidavit, a written address, and relevant documentary exhibits.

He urged the court to grant the prayers in the interest of justice, noting that the suspect had allegedly absconded and that the order was required to facilitate her arrest and possible prosecution.

After listening to the submissions of counsel, Justice Ogazi held that the application had merit.

The judge subsequently granted all the reliefs sought by the police. In his ruling, Justice Ogazi ordered that Uyime Akpan be declared wanted and placed on the wanted list of the Nigeria Police Special Fraud Unit until she is arrested for prosecution.

The court also granted leave to the police to publish her name in national newspapers and on social media for the purpose of enforcing the order.
