Beyond Charity: Knights of Saint Mulumba Kick Off Tech Training for 23 Youth

In a decisive move to bridge the digital divide and foster economic independence among Nigerian youth, the Knights of Saint Mulumba (KSM), Victoria Garden City (VGC) Subcouncil, has inaugurated its Digital Skills Acquisition Programme

The initiative, which kicked off last weekend, marks a strategic pivot toward sustainable empowerment within the faith-based community.

The inaugural session saw the admission of 23 trainees into Cohort One. These participants, though coming from varied professional and educational backgrounds, share a singular objective: mastering the high-demand competencies required to navigate and thrive in the modern global economy.

The Worthy Grand Knight (WGK), Sir Tony Ukairo, launched the programme with a message centred on the philosophy of sustainability.

Drawing a parallel between modern technology and biblical wisdom, Sir Ukairo referenced Matthew 4:19 — “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

He emphasised that the initiative is designed to move beyond the traditional handout model of charity.

“The programme is structured to teach sustainable skills rather than provide temporary relief. Our goal is to ensure participants learn by doing.

“Through interactive sessions and real-world projects, they will be empowered to ‘catch their fish’ and thrive in the global digital economy,” Ukairo stated.

The curriculum is specifically tailored to address the current skills gap in the Nigerian labour market. Trainees will undergo intensive, hands-on training in several critical pillars of the tech industry, including Web Development, Digital Marketing, Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity.

To accommodate diverse schedules while maintaining high standards, the programme utilises a hybrid learning model.

It combines live virtual sessions with recorded modules, expert-led instruction, and practical simulations to ensure that every participant achieves measurable technical proficiency.

The launch was attended by the executive leadership of the KSM VGC Subcouncil, signalling strong institutional backing for the project.

Key figures in attendance included the Worthy Deputy Grand Knight (WDGK), Sir Anthony Chiejina, and the Worthy Chancellor, Bro Yemi Bankole.

The technical delivery of the course is being spearheaded by Sir Peter Iwuegbu and Bro Dike Ukaegbu, who serve as the primary facilitators.

Coordination and public engagement for the initiative are being managed by Sir Chojare Igho Najevwe, the Subcouncil’s Worthy Public Relations Officer.

The KSM VGC Subcouncil has outlined an ambitious roadmap for the future, with plans to host two cohorts annually.

This consistent cycle is intended to create a steady pipeline of tech-savvy individuals capable of entrepreneurship or securing high-level employment.
