Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), the private security firm responsible for safeguarding the Eastern Corridor of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP), has called on host communities to deepen their cooperation in protecting critical oil infrastructure as it distributed Christmas palliatives in Owaza, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
The outreach, which also extended to selected communities in Rivers State, formed part of PINL’s annual Christmas intervention aimed at appreciating host communities for their support and collaboration throughout 2025.
The event was held on Sunday at a primary school in Owaza, where food items were distributed and free medical services provided to residents.
Speaking during the presentation, Ebikeme Andrew, Head of Community Relations at PINL, commended the communities for their cooperation in the outgoing year but urged them to do more as the company prepares for operations in 2026.
Andrew explained that the initiative was designed not only as a show of appreciation but also as a platform to strengthen the relationship between the company and its host communities.
“As a way of saying thank you, we decided to come and share these palliatives with the communities. But like Oliver Twist, we are also asking for more support. As you have supported us in 2025, we want to say that come 2026, we need to do more together,” Andrew stated.
He called on community leaders to mobilise youths and residents to desist from oil bunkering and other forms of criminality along the pipeline corridor, stressing that such activities were no longer acceptable.
“Tell your youths and everyone in your community that the time of oil bunkering is over. This is the time to join hands with the government to stop all forms of criminality along the Trans Niger Pipeline,” Andrew said.
According to him, PINL remains committed to complementing community support with programmes that directly benefit host communities.
“As you double your efforts in supporting us, we will also double our efforts in rolling out programmes that will be beneficial to everyone in these communities,” he added.
Andrew also announced that free medical services were being conducted simultaneously with the distribution of palliatives, noting that the company deployed qualified medical personnel to attend to the healthcare needs of residents.
Responding on behalf of the Owaza community, Chief Maxwell Chibuzor Nwagbara, the Traditional Prime Minister of Owaza, expressed appreciation to PINL for reaching out to its host communities during the festive season.
“It is good to always make your host community happy, especially during this festive period. When families have something to eat, people will not think of evil. PINL is doing well by sustaining peace and good relationships with the communities,” Nwagbara said.
He further called on the Federal Government to consider expanding and extending PINL’s engagement, citing the company’s operational effectiveness and cordial relationship with host communities.
“PINL has what it takes to continue this job. Other companies that operated here before did not have this kind of relationship with the communities.
“What PINL is doing has helped increase oil production along the TNP. That is why I am calling on the Federal Government to elongate their services so more communities can benefit,” he said.
Chief Nwagbara reaffirmed the Owaza community’s readiness to sustain its partnership with PINL, pledging continued cooperation to ensure the safety of pipeline infrastructure and the success of the company’s operations.
