A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Osasele, the General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, over allegations of trafficking 900 kilogrammes of Ghana Loud, a potent strain of Cannabis Sativa.
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa issued the order on Thursday after the cleric, popularly known as Abbas Ajakaiye, was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). He pleaded not guilty to the single-count charge.
According to the prosecution, led by NDLEA counsel, M. I. Erondu, Prophet Osasele was apprehended on August 3, 2024, in Ajah, Lagos, in connection with the banned substance.
The NDLEA maintained that his alleged conduct contravenes Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, which prescribes penalties for dealing in illicit drugs.
The charge, numbered FHC/L/682c/2025, accused Osasele, also referred to as ‘alias Abbas Ajakaiye’, of unlawfully dealing in 900 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, classified as a narcotic drug in the same category as cocaine, heroin, and LSD.
After the cleric’s denial, the prosecution requested a trial date and urged the court to remand him at the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) facility until proceedings commence.
Defence counsel, Mimido Nyiew, however, informed the court that a bail application had already been filed and duly served on the prosecution.
Ruling on the application, Justice Lewis-Allagoa granted bail to the General Overseer in the sum of N50 million, with one surety in like sum.
The surety, the judge ordered, must provide verifiable evidence of ownership of landed property within the court’s jurisdiction and swear an affidavit of means.
Despite granting bail, the judge directed that Prophet Osasele remain in NCoS custody until he meets the stringent conditions.
The matter has been adjourned to November 18, 2025, for trial.
