Tackling Non-Communicable Diseases: Journalists Convene in Lagos

The Brand Journalist Association of Nigeria (BJAN) recently hosted a one-day capacity-building workshop in Lagos to address the growing crisis of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Nigeria. 






Titled “Rethinking the NCD Crisis: A Holistic Approach to the Debate in Nigeria,” the event brought together journalists and industry experts to explore effective strategies for reporting on the issue.


Among the key participants were Lukman Ishau, Vice Chairman of BJAN; Dr Ajibola Arwa, Associate Professor of Finance at Lagos State University (LASU); Dr Kanalio Yvonne Olalokun, Nutrition Institute and Wyeth Nutrition Science Centre Manager for Central & West Africa at Nestlé; Daniel Obi, President of BJAN; Adedayo Odulaja, Secretary of BJAN; Goddie Ofose, former BJAN President; Clara Okoro, immediate-past BJAN President; and BJAN Board of Trustees’ Member, Mr Akin Adewakun, among others.

The workshop, held on Friday, August 1, 2025, provided a platform for robust discussions on the multi-faceted nature of NCDs, covering topics from public health and nutrition to the economic impact on the nation. 


The initiative aims to equip journalists with the knowledge and tools needed to report on NCDs with greater depth and accuracy, fostering a more informed public dialogue and driving proactive solutions.
