Hope Delivered: Dangote Foundation Distributes 15,000 Bags of Rice in Akwa Ibom

There was a tangible sense of relief and celebration among vulnerable citizens of Akwa Ibom State as the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) began its distribution of 15,000 bags of 10 kg rice.

The initiative, part of the ADF National Food Intervention Programme, aims to alleviate the harsh economic realities currently facing many Nigerian families.

At the official flag-off ceremony, Governor Umoh Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, expressed profound gratitude to the Dangote Foundation for the timely and impactful gesture.

He described the donation as a critical step that aligns perfectly with both federal and state-level efforts to combat poverty and food insecurity.

"This donation could not have come at a better time. Every bag of rice handed out today is more than just food; it is a message of hope to struggling families across Akwa Ibom State. Government alone cannot bear this burden, "Governor Eno stated.

The governor highlighted how the foundation's contribution complements the state's own Bulk Purchase Food Intervention Programme, which has already provided relief to over 477,000 households across all 31 Local Government Areas.

He also seized the opportunity to appeal to other corporate bodies, philanthropic organisations, and private individuals to follow the foundation's lead and support ongoing humanitarian efforts in the state.

Mrs Eno Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, praised the partnership, calling it a significant boost to the state government's food security initiatives.

Mr Victor Ejiro, Head of Operations at the Aliko Dangote Foundation, affirmed that the donation is part of a broader national effort to support vulnerable communities.

He commended Governor Eno's administration for its transparent and effective humanitarian programs, noting that the foundation was proud to collaborate with the state government.

Mrs Eno Akpan, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, on behalf of the ministry, thanked the foundation, assuring that the food items would provide much-needed relief to countless families.

Dr Uwemedimo Udo, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Akwa Ibom, who attended the event with other council chairmen, guaranteed that the rice would be distributed directly to the most vulnerable residents in each local government area.

The event was well-attended by various dignitaries, including local government chairmen, government aides, and ministry officials.

Also, present were representatives of vulnerable groups, such as Comrade Ubong Ikpe, the Governor's Personal Assistant on Persons with Disabilities, who thanked both the state government and the Dangote Foundation for their commitment to inclusive humanitarian support.

The distribution exercise continued smoothly in various locations, including Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

Chairman Aniefiok Nkom lauded the foundation for its generous support, reiterating his commitment to ensuring the food items reach those most in need.

A representative from the Dangote Foundation praised the people of Ikot Ekpene for their peaceful and organised approach to the distribution process, which facilitated a smooth and effective exercise.

The event was witnessed by a delegation from the foundation and local leaders, including the Leader of the Ikot Ekpene legislative Council, Nkereuwem Umoh.
