Cross River Benefits from Dangote's Nationwide Food Intervention, Praises Partnership

In a significant boost to food security efforts and a demonstration of impactful public-private partnership, the Aliko Dangote Foundation has commenced the distribution of 10,000 bags of 10-kilogram rice to vulnerable households, people with disabilities, and the less privileged across Cross River State.

This crucial intervention aims to alleviate the severe pangs of hunger currently affecting many communities.

The initiative, which began last week, saw a large turnout of beneficiaries eager to receive the much-needed support.

Representing Governor Bassey Edet Otu at the distribution event, the Secretary to the Cross River State Government, Professor Anthony Owan-Enoh, lauded the gesture as a prime example of effective collaboration between government and private organisations.

“This impactful gesture, part of a nationwide food intervention effort, is a testament to the power of collaboration between government and private organisations in improving the lives of citizens.

“On behalf of the Governor, we extend our sincere gratitude to the Aliko Dangote Foundation”, Professor Owan-Enoh stated.

“This kind of support uplifts our people and aligns perfectly with the ‘People First’ agenda of the Cross River State Government.

“Cross River State remains committed to partnerships that bring relief, hope, and development to our communities.”

Edero Victor Ejiro, Head of Operations for the Aliko Dangote Foundation, elaborated on the scope of the program during the distribution exercise.

He confirmed that the initiative is a key component of the foundation’s annual National Food Intervention Project, designed to provide essential support to over one million disadvantaged Nigerians across all 774 local government areas in the country.

“We are here to present 10,000 bags of 10kg rice to the people of Cross River,” Ejiro said, emphasising the foundation's long-standing commitment to humanitarian efforts.

“The Aliko Dangote Foundation has been in existence for over 30 years and has been helpful in the areas of empowerment, nutrition, and education,” he added.

Ejiro further explained that the widespread distribution of rice is intended to cushion the effects of the hardship currently being experienced nationwide and to complement the food security initiatives implemented by various state governments.

The primary beneficiaries include market women, the vulnerable, physically challenged individuals, widows, and artisans.

Ejiro expressed confidence in the state government's distribution plan, stating, “We have seen the template that the state government wants to use to distribute the rice, and we are impressed with what we saw, and we believe that they are going to do a thorough job by distributing the rice to the needy and vulnerable in our midst.

“This programme is to support families, support people in the grassroots to alleviate and back up synergy with the state government.”

Beneficiaries at the event expressed profound gratitude to the Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation for his compassionate intervention.

Victoria Edem Ekpenyong, a widow and one of the recipients, specifically lauded the kind gesture and offered prayers for the continuous protection of the foundation's founder.

The distribution exercise has also successfully kicked off at the local government level, with hundreds of beneficiaries joyfully collecting their bags of rice and commending the Aliko Dangote Foundation for its impactful support.
