A man identified as Musiliu Musa Awoga, also known as Ajingolo, has been remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for allegedly impersonating the Orijeru of Igbooye Kingdom, Epe, and forging a Supreme Court of Nigeria ruling.
Awoga, the first defendant, was remanded alongside Olamilekan Awoga, Hassan Adefala, and Moses Awoga (second to fourth defendants) after they pleaded not guilty to a 13-count charge.
The charges, brought by the Lagos State Government (LASG), include forgery, impersonation, breach of peace, and assault on police officers, among others.
Chief Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye of an Oshodi Chief Magistrate Court, sitting at the Lagos Task Force office, ordered their remand following their plea.
Musiliu Awoga pleaded not guilty to 11 charges, while the other three defendants each entered not-guilty pleas to seven charges.
Prosecuting counsel, Mr. O.A. Adekunle, appearing with Omotunde Airat, informed the court that the defendants and others still at large allegedly committed the offences on June 14, 2025, at their house in Igbooye, Eredo, Epe.
The prosecution specifically alleged that they forged a Supreme Court ruling in suit SC/CV/969/2020, along with the letterhead of the Eredo, Epe Local Council Development Area (LCDA), and the signature of its Chairman, Hon. Ismail Akinloye.
The prosecuting team further stated that Musiliu Awoga impersonated the legitimate Igbooye monarch, Oba AbdulRasak Musa, by referring to himself as "Orijeru of Igbooye" and "Awujale of Ijebu-Eko," titles described as unknown stools or chieftaincies contrary to Section 34 of the Obas and Chieftaincy Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The first defendant was also accused of unlawfully wearing a beaded crown and holding a beaded Staff of Office, purporting to be "Oba Orijeru of Igbooye," despite not being a recognised Oba, which is also contrary to the provisions of the Obas and Chieftaincy Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Additionally, he allegedly printed banners and invitation cards on which he described himself as "Oba-elect, Orijeru of Igbooye, Awujale of Ijebu-Eko," complete with images of himself wearing a beaded crown and holding a beaded staff.
Following their not-guilty pleas, the prosecution team informed the court that the Director, Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), had requested that the case file be forwarded for legal advice, as investigations are still ongoing.
The prosecution subsequently prayed the court to remand the defendants pending this legal advice.
Chief Magistrate Adefioye granted the request and ordered the remand of all four defendants in the custody of the NCoS.
The case has been adjourned to September 8, 2025, for further mention and the DPP's advice.
