In a continued commitment to community empowerment and sustainable development, Dangote Cement Plc., Ibese Plant, has successfully conducted its 2025 Annual Capacity Development Workshop for host community representatives in Ogun State.
Themed “Engagement and Advocacy Skills: Critical Tools for Community Representatives,” the training brought together over 50 participants, including youth leaders, women, and officials from Yewa North and Ewekoro Local Government Areas.
The initiative aims to equip community representatives with essential skills to foster effective communication, dialogue, and partnership with the cement manufacturing giant.
Declaring the workshop open, Mr Aina Olugbenga, Head of Human Asset Management and Administration at Dangote Cement, praised the community leaders for their commitment to peace and development, emphasising their critical role in sustaining the harmony that exists between the Plant and its host communities.
Olugbenga urged the participants to deploy the knowledge gained from the training to enhance community welfare and strengthen collaboration with the company.
“Your presence and active participation reflect your dedication to service and our shared vision of mutual development.
“This workshop is not just about learning skills; it’s about building bridges that ensure sustainable growth for all stakeholders,” he said.
In her address, Mrs Ololade Akiyode, Director of Community Development at Yewa North Local Government, lauded the relationship between Dangote Cement and its host communities, describing it as “a model of sustainable development driven by effective engagement, understanding, and collaboration.”
She called on participants to continue leveraging dialogue and cooperation in their interactions with the company, noting that such an approach would foster long-term benefits for all parties.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Dayo Ogunyinka commended Dangote Cement for the training initiative and reaffirmed the community representatives’ commitment to responsible and selfless leadership.
“This workshop has enriched us with the tools to better serve our communities and collaborate effectively with the company.
“We appreciate the continuous support from Dangote Cement and pledge to maintain a positive relationship built on mutual respect and progress,” Ogunyinka said.
Beyond leadership training, Dangote Cement’s Ibese Plant runs a range of empowerment programmes aimed at accelerating socio-economic growth in host communities.
These include vocational training in trades such as domestic electrical installation, tailoring, catering, and others.
The goal is to reduce unemployment, improve living standards, and foster self-reliance among community members.
Key pillars of the company’s social investment strategy include:
•Skills Acquisition: Offering hands-on training to boost employability and entrepreneurial capacity.
•Economic Empowerment: Provision of start-up kits and resources to help graduates of the training programs start their businesses.
•Community Development: Reducing poverty and unemployment by investing in human capital and infrastructure.
•Sustainable Development: Aligning initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially in the areas of poverty eradication, zero hunger, and building resilient communities.
Additionally, Dangote Cement awards scholarships to outstanding but financially challenged students from host communities and continues to invest in the training of community leaders for effective conflict resolution and governance.
The company has repeatedly emphasised that its commitment goes beyond business operations, it includes being a responsible corporate citizen dedicated to uplifting its communities through strategic partnerships and impactful social investments.
