A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday, June 20, 2025, adjourned further hearing in the trial of popular music promoter, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod, popularly known as Eezee Tee, to September 26, 2025.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke fixed the new date following a plea from the defence counsel, who disclosed that both parties were close to reaching an agreement.
ThankGod and his company, Eezee Global Concepts Limited, are standing trial on an amended seven-count charge bordering on alleged foreign exchange malpractice and money laundering involving $397,106.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned the defendants on May 7, 2025. The case was previously before Justice Owoeye before being reassigned to Justice Aneke.
One of the charges reads: “That you, EZEKIEL ONYEDIKACHUWU THANKGOD and EEZEE GLOBAL CONCEPTS LIMITED, sometime in June 2023 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, not being an authorised buyer of foreign exchange currency appointed by the Central Bank of Nigeria under Section 5(1) of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act, negotiated a foreign exchange transaction to wit: the Naira equivalent of $52,895 with Mr Oladotun Olaobaju Mureke.”
At Friday’s hearing, EFCC’s counsel, Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, presented the first prosecution witness, Mohammed Timta.
However, the defence counsel, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), urged the court for “one last chance” as both sides were “on the verge of reaching an agreement,” adding that the prosecution would proceed with the trial if negotiations failed.
