Real estate firm GTEXT Homes Ltd and its founder, Dr Stephen Akintayo, are preparing to file lawsuits against several individuals and online platforms for allegedly publishing false and defamatory content that they say has seriously harmed their reputation.
In a statement issued through their legal counsel, Mr Malachy Ugwummadu, the company revealed that it is seeking N1 billion in damages from each party involved in the alleged smear campaign.
Additionally, a separate $50 million claim is being pursued against a US-based YouTuber accused of monetising the defamatory content.
Ugwummadu, a former National President of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), described the circulating allegations, including claims of fraud and misconduct, as baseless and malicious attempts to tarnish the reputations of both GTEXT Homes and its founder.
He emphasised that multiple investigations by relevant authorities have shown no record of wrongdoing against either the company or Dr Akintayo. “No indictment or conviction has ever been recorded against them in any jurisdiction,” he noted.
One particularly damaging claim cited in the statement involves an alleged $15,000 Dubai property scam.
The company flatly denied the accusation, branding it a complete fabrication lacking any factual support.
GTEXT Homes also addressed a separate controversy involving Kingsley Nwankwo, a former volunteer sales agent.
According to Ugwummadu, Nwankwo made unreasonable financial demands related to a botched client deal that caused the company financial losses. He has since been remanded in prison custody.
The firm’s legal action is aimed in part at holding accountable a US-based content creator accused of profiting from defamation.
“This individual not only defamed Dr Akintayo but also benefited financially through monetised YouTube content,” the lawyer alleged.
Ugwummadu stated that the legal move is intended to serve as a warning against the unchecked spread of misinformation online.
“This action underscores our unwavering commitment to truth, accountability, and reputation,” he said.
GTEXT Homes lamented the speed at which false information can spread in the digital age and reiterated its resolve to actively combat defamation.
“We believe the truth will prevail,” the statement concluded, reaffirming the company’s commitment to integrity, transparency, and continued service to its clients, partners, and community.
