Dangote Cement Plc (DCP) has improved its environmental sustainability ratings, earning a ‘B’ score in both Climate Change and Water Security, according to the recently released 2024 CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) results.
This achievement reflects the company’s commitment to transparency, environmental responsibility, and sustainability-driven business practices.
CDP, the world’s largest and most comprehensive environmental disclosure platform, provides a voluntary framework for companies to report their impact on Climate, Water Security, and Forests.
Organisations are assessed based on their governance, transparency, and measurable actions, receiving scores ranging from A to D.
In 2024, Dangote Cement’s Water Security rating improved from C to B, while its Climate Change score also remained strong at B.
Speaking on the recognition, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Dangote Cement, Mr Arvind Pathak, emphasised the company’s leadership in environmental disclosures across Africa.
“Dangote Cement is one of the few businesses in six African regions to disclose through CDP.
“This year’s improved score is a testament to our continued efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, accelerate climate action, and promote sustainability across our operations and value chain,” he said.
The company’s Head of Sustainability, Dr Igazeuma Okoroba, expressed appreciation for the stakeholders who have aligned with Dangote Cement’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.
She highlighted the significance of the improved ratings, stating, “This year’s results prove that our commitment to balancing people, planet, and profit is yielding tangible outcomes.”
Looking ahead, Dr Okoroba reaffirmed Dangote Cement’s long-term focus on decarbonisation, noting that the company’s goals extend beyond disclosure.
“While transparency is crucial, our ultimate aim is to implement meaningful actions, innovations, and projects that bridge the gap between ambition and reality,” she added.
As sub-Saharan Africa’s largest cement producer, Dangote Cement operates in 10 African countries with an installed capacity of 45.6 million tonnes per annum (Mta).
The company’s sustainability strategy includes energy efficiency measures, the adoption of supplementary cement materials, carbon offset initiatives, and other eco-friendly practices.
