In a historic moment for the Iworo community, the Oniworo of Iworo Kingdom, Oba Oladele Kosoko, alongside prominent cleric Primate Elijah Ayodele, and Olorunda LCDA chairman, Mr Samson Folorunsho, officially commissioned Iworo 100.1 FM on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Badagry, Lagos State.
The event drew a distinguished gathering of royal fathers, clerics, and community leaders, marking a significant milestone for the region.
For Oba Oladele Kosoko, the launch of Iworo 100.1 FM is more than just a media project, it is a dream turned reality.
The monarch, who also chairs the station, recounted the skepticism that surrounded the initiative when its foundation was laid in August 2024.
“Today is a day of joy because when we started this project, many thought it would never come to pass.
“But here we are, witnessing history. This station is not just for Iworo but for everyone. It is a platform for communication, development, and unity across all religious and ethnic divides,” Oba Kosoko declared.
Emphasizing inclusivity, the monarch assured that Iworo 100.1 FM will serve all religious and cultural groups, embracing Christianity, Islam, and traditional beliefs alike.
“We are not a tribalistic radio station at all. This is an avenue for communication, and I pray that those with similar dreams achieve them as well,” he added.
The chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Mr Samson Folorunsho, hailed the development as a significant win for the local government and expressed gratitude for witnessing the historic moment during his tenure.
“We thank God for making this possible. We have been looking for ways to achieve this, and it is a great privilege to see it happen in our time,” he stated.
One of the key figures behind the realization of Iworo 100.1 FM is Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church.
The cleric played a pivotal role in ensuring the radio station was established in Iworo rather than another location initially proposed by the project’s initiators.
Primate Ayodele revealed how he was consulted by some indigents of Iworo about setting up a radio station in Lagos.
Initially, plans were in place to establish it elsewhere, but he strongly advised that Iworo should be the home of the station.
“We had already acquired land before Kabiyesi (Oba Kosoko) called me to ask about the purpose of the project.
“When I told him it was for a radio station, he refunded the payment made for the land and charged only N1 million for it, showing his love for community development,” Ayodele recounted.
He went further to praise Oba Kosoko’s personal contributions, revealing that the monarch funded the foundation and fencing of the station before the committee even became fully involved.
"Kabiyesi poured himself into this project. He started the construction with his personal money, and even now, the committee still owes him. His dedication has been extraordinary,” he added.
In another groundbreaking announcement, Primate Ayodele disclosed that a mass communication school will soon be built within the premises of Iworo 100.1 FM.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the school was conducted alongside the commissioning of the radio station.
Beyond media, Iworo 100.1 FM’s leadership is committed to empowering residents. To mark its launch, the station provided financial aid to women entrepreneurs to support their businesses, assisted youths with school fees, ensured access to education, and organized a palliative market, where essential food items were sold at highly subsidized prices to help local families.
