Dr. Daphne Dafinone |
Barring any last-minute changes, Dr. Daphne Dafinone, a board member of the Nigerian Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), is set to appear before a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on March 4, 2025.
Justice Ibrahim Kala, who presided over the case, adjourned the arraignment due to Dr. Dafinone’s absence during the hearing.
Dr. Dafinone, alongside her company, CEDDI Corporation Limited, faces charges of alleged N100 million fraud.
During the proceedings, her counsel, Dapo Akinosun (SAN), informed the court that Dr. Dafinone was in London receiving medical treatment. He presented evidence, including a doctor’s letter, photocopies of her passport, and travel stamps, to confirm her location abroad.
Akinosun assured the court that Dr. Dafinone would return to Nigeria by January 28, 2025, and requested an adjournment. The prosecution did not oppose the request.
Justice Kala subsequently adjourned the case to allow for Dr. Dafinone's arraignment.
The charges, marked FHC/C/661C/24, stem from a petition filed by Prince Lukman Adeleke, a developer, against Dr. Dafinone, CEDDI Corporation Ltd., and others.
The petition alleges that between April and December 2019, Dr. Dafinone conspired to defraud Adeleke of N100 million during negotiations for the sale of a property located at 93 Broad Street, Lagos Island.
Adeleke claims that despite making an N100 million payment, Dr. Dafinone sold the same property to another buyer, Mrs. Ganiyat Ulom.
Efforts to resolve the matter through a memorandum of claim were allegedly ignored, prompting Adeleke to seek legal redress.
