The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Command has achieved an unprecedented milestone in 2024 by generating a record-breaking revenue of ₦50,847,625,597.08.
This represents an over 50% increase compared to the ₦27.95 billion collected in 2023, marking the highest annual revenue collection in the command's history.
Speaking at a press briefing, Comptroller Comfort Ukpanah, Customs Area Controller, attributed the success to the implementation of the Comptroller General's policy guidelines focused on Consultation, Innovation, and Consolidation.
By fostering stronger collaboration with stakeholders and enhancing compliance monitoring, the command achieved remarkable results despite global economic challenges.
The command adopted a robust compliance template for monitoring stakeholders and addressing operational gaps.
Efforts included round-the-clock surveillance of excise factories and ensuring accurate excise duties were collected, alongside a heightened focus on parcel post functions to curb revenue leakages.
Ukpanah also acknowledged the invaluable support from security and regulatory agencies and the role of intelligence sharing in achieving the revenue milestone.
The command emphasized its readiness to contribute significantly to the Federal Government's ambitious ₦49.74 trillion budget for 2025.
With plans to develop fresh operational strategies, Ukpanah expressed confidence in the command's capacity to meet and exceed future revenue targets.
In 2024, the command prioritized strengthening ties with stakeholders, security agencies, and traditional institutions.
A notable highlight was the visit of Mrs Kikelomo Adewale Adeniyi, National Chairperson of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), who commissioned key projects, including an ultra-modern clinic benefiting both officers and local communities.
While appreciating compliant traders, the Comptroller warned non-compliant operators to adhere to trade guidelines or face legal consequences.
She also lauded the media for their role in promoting the command’s activities and called for continued collaboration in nation-building.
Ukpanah expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and her team for their unwavering support.
She commended the dedication of her officers and men, urging them to build on the achievements of 2024 as they aim for greater success in the coming year.
“The Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Command remains committed to its role as a vital link in the value chain of national revenue generation,” she concluded.
