NSA Ribadu Condemns Security Personnel for Supplying Arms to Criminals

National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu has criticized certain policemen and soldiers for allegedly stealing and selling arms and ammunition to criminal groups.

Ribadu made these remarks in Abuja on Friday during a weapons destruction event organized by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons.

He described security agents involved in these acts as “worse human beings,” stressing the urgent need to stop such practices to restore peace and stability in the country.

Ribadu emphasized, “The worst human being is a policeman or a soldier who takes arms from his formations and sells them to bad elements, enabling them to harm their fellow citizens.”

Ribadu also denounced those facilitating the transfer of weapons to terrorists, bandits, and other non-state actors.

He highlighted that a significant portion of illicit arms used in criminal activities originally came from government sources.

Nigeria continues to grapple with various security challenges, including a prolonged 15-year insurgency led by Boko Haram in the North-East, which has claimed over 40,000 lives.

The central and north-western regions face persistent threats from armed groups known as “bandits,” who carry out raids, kidnappings, and destruction of property.

These bandits, driven primarily by financial motives, have increasingly formed alliances with jihadist groups, raising concerns among officials and analysts.
