Promoting Unity And Zoning: A path to electoral success in Akwa Ibom State — Attah

The Member Representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency, Pastor Ubong Attah, commended the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for advocating the adherence to the zoning principle for all elective positions in the upcoming local government elections in the state.

The House Committee Chairman on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Attah emphasised that the governor's decision has brought hope to areas previously excluded or marginalised from the benefits of zoning, offering them opportunities at governance from the levels of councillorship to chairmanship positions.

To prevent issues and promote fairness in the forthcoming Local Government elections in Ibesikpo Asutan, the House member stated that stakeholders, devoid of bias, unanimously supported the longstanding zoning formula, designating the chairmanship position to Ibesikpo Ward 4.

Attah revealed this during discussions with the press at Victor Attah International Airport, upon returning from an official engagement outside the state, confirming that the Ibesikpo Asutan Chapter of the Party had taken a stance on zoning the chairmanship position.

Expressing satisfaction with the decision of major stakeholders, Attah believed this move would help quell unnecessary conflicts seen in other local government areas, urging the local government to select a “credible, capable, and mature candidate” who would restore pride to the local government.

Furthermore, Attah advised aspirants from other wards interested in the race to adhere to the established zoning arrangements to promote peace and unity in the Local Government.

He encouraged candidates from Ibesikpo Ward 4 for their dedication and urged the local government to prioritise capacity and credibility over sentiments when selecting the next chairpersons and councillors.

In a cautionary note to all aspirants, Attah warned against engaging in character defamation or undermining fellow contestants, emphasising the need to uphold integrity and fair play for a successful and harmonious electoral process.

He also took the time to commend the stakeholders and elders of Ibesikpo Asutan for zoning the chairmanship position specifically to Ibesikpo Ward 4, a move he deemed fitting and appropriate given the current political landscape and distribution of political roles

He praised the leadership of Governor Eno for fostering political and economic stability in the state, asserting that the governor's backing on zoning of political offices has significantly propelled the growth of the party within the state and country.

By supporting the party in maintaining existing zoning structures that have spurred the state's development, Governor Eno demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the people and the party, earning praise from Attah as the “Conscience of the People.”

While acknowledging the governor's accomplishments, the House member encouraged governors from other states to emulate Governor Eno's leadership model, noting his exceptional wisdom, Christian faith, and dedication to progress despite economic challenges.

Furthermore, Attah highlighted the governor's inclusive approach in dealing with internal party politics, emphasising his equitable distribution of appointments across the state's three senatorial districts and ten federal constituencies.

Regarding the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024, Attah urged all party stakeholders to honour zoning, uphold peace, unity, and the party's supremacy for a successful electoral process.
