Late Engineer David Huesu |
An appeal has been extended to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, to save the life of a businessman, Mr Adenuga Christopher Olanrewaju, alongside that of his family from a suspected land grabber, Mr Ugochukwu Kingsley Emerini, who Mr Olanrewaju is accusing of using those he describes as corrupt officers to intimidate and threaten him.
The appeal is contained in a petition addressed to the IGP by the counsel for the businessman, Aare Oladotun Hassan who also copied the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, PSC, the Minister of Police Affairs, and the Head of IGP Monitoring Unit, FHQ, Abuja.
According to the petition, the lawyer insisted that the appeal became imperative consequent upon the death of one Engineer David Huesu, who was alleged to have been killed by some men of the Nigerian Army on the instruction of the alleged land grabber, Mr Emerini.
Mr Olanrewaju stated in the petition through his counsel that on July 20, 2024, at about 4:30 am, he had received the news that Engineer David, who was working on his site, was allegedly killed during an invasion of the site by some men of the Nigerian Army allegedly hired by Mr Kingsley.
The lawyer prayed to the IGP to thoroughly investigate the allegations of the extra-judicial killing carried out by the Nigerian Army, allegedly accompanied also by some police officers, despite the ongoing investigation from his earlier petition.
The businessman further asked the IGP to extend the ongoing investigation by the Monitoring Unit to cover potential causes of death and thoroughly investigate any previous altercations with other individuals involved.
The petitioner emphasised the interference in the investigation, noting that despite having written a petition to the IGP’s office on April 26, 2024, and the case being assigned to the IGP Monitoring Unit, Kingsley, allegedly with the aid of thugs and military personnel, invaded his property, resulting in the death of Engineer Huesu and injuries to other workers.
The petition reads in full:
24th July, 2024.
The Inspector General of Police, Nigeria Police Force, Force Headquarters, Louise Edet House, FCT, Abuja.
Sir,
REQUEST FOR AN URGENT INTERVENTION OVER THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF MR DAVID OLUKAYODE HUESU, HIGH LEVEL OF THREATS, THREAT TO LIFE, ATTEMPT TO KIDNAP AND GROSS VIOLATION OF THE LAW.
RE: COMPLAINT AGAINST POLICE/MILITARY ARMY ACTION, UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT, ACTS OF CULTISM, THREATENING VIOLENCE, WILFULLY DAMAGE, AND CONDUCT LIKELY TO CAUSE SERIOUS BREACH OF PEACE AGAINST MR UGOCHUKWU KINGSLEY EMERINI AND OTHERS WITH THE AIDS OF MILITARY ARMY
The above subject matters refer.
We are Solicitors to Mr Adenuga Christopher Olanrewaju, hereinafter referred to as “Our Clients/Victims”, and whose firm instructions we appeal to your good office for onward swift action with due diligent investigation and prosecution of the above-captioned matter accordingly.
We further request your urgent attention in respect of this same case in a petition earlier approved and currently under investigation at the IGP Monitoring Unit FHQ, Abuja.
And hereby regret to inform you that, on the 20th of July 2024 at about 4:30 am the sudden news came to our client's attention that the late Mr David who was attacked on the site of our client during the invasion of the Nigerian Army hired by the suspect Mr Ugochukwu Kingsley was reported death in which we suspect a smokescreen decoy by Mr Ugochukwu Kingsley and his co-accomplices over our client's property, and regrettably since the incident occurred our client has been noticing strange faces around his house, who have fiercely lay siege to attack, and his life is in danger as we speak, precipitating our urgent appeal to expand the web of investigation to cover the remote and probable cause of death, previous altercations with co-accomplices which may be due to mafia modus operandi of taking over each other in the crime world, as bate to arrest the victim who in this scenario is our client's co-workers.
We are extremely concerned to note the accelerated attack by the lead thug, Mr Ugochukwu Kingsley and his men aggressively swift in to further wreak monumental havoc by using some police officers to perpetrate these shoddy moves under the guise of investigating, a scenario we are abundantly clear that there is a premeditated script to kill and divert the earlier investigation on the land grabbing case before the IGP Monitoring Unit.
However, On the 26th of April 2024, Our client wrote a petition to your office in respect of the above-mentioned case in which you assigned the case to the IGP Monitoring Unit.
Consequently, the team from IGP Monitoring Unit Abuja swung into action and carried out a professional investigation without delay and invited all parties, including our client, to the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Our client wrote his statements with supportive evidence and had an interview with the Head of the Unit accordingly.
Based on this premise, our client informed us that while the investigation was still on, the same suspects led by Ugochukwu Kingsley, with the aid of thugs and a combined team of military personnel stormed our client’s property with dangerous weapons unheard of, and they were aggressively threatening violence attacks around all over the community especially our client’s property premises, thereby consequently disrupting our client's co-workers peace, and they equally attempted to kidnap our client if not for the quick intervention of passerby who rescued the situation otherwise worsened evil might have happened.
We are also inundated with serial complaints of crimes perpetrated by the syndicates hiding under the veil of the Nigerian Army officers from nowhere to perpetrate their nefarious activities.
Hence, we specially request an urgent holistic and expanded thorough background check and detailed investigation of the uniformed officers and the death of Mr David Huesu.
The suspects are habitually used to pretentiously raise false claims to arrest, intimidate and harass our client and any other innocent Nigerians living within the community, deceitfully upturning justice and thereby making the case to be the hunted, becoming the hunter.
This is a grave injustice if allowed unmitigated and uncheckmated respectively.
Given the foregoing circumstances, our client desires that in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Police Act and all other relevant statutory laws, we plead with your good offices to direct the Investigating Team to investigate the case properly to avoid injustice and to ensure that all the suspects including their accomplices are thoroughly investigated and brought to book if found culpable.
We appreciate your exemplary leadership style, equitable justice, landmarks and optimum performance since your assumption of office.
We would appreciate your accelerated approval of our request respectively
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
