The electricity tariff for Band A customers in Nigeria have been raised.
The increase was implemented by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), which also explained that Band A customers are those who enjoy electricity supply for 20 hours per day.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Musliu Oseni, stated that the increase will result in customers paying ₦225 per kilowatt-hour, up from the current ₦66.
Oseni further revealed that these customers represent 15 percent of the 12 million electricity customers in the country.
He added that the commission had also downgraded some customers from Band A to Band B due to failure to meet the required hours of electricity provided by the electricity distribution company.
