44-Year-Old Faye Takes Over As Senegal's New President

Left-wing pan-Africanist Bassirou Diomaye Faye was on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, sworn in as Senegal’s youngest president.

This development took place after Faye swept a first-round victory on a pledge of radical reform 10 days after he was released from prison.

Interestingly, the 44-year-old Faye has never held an elected office, but several African leaders attended the ceremony in the new town of Diamniadio, near the capital Dakar.

Taking his oath of office, Faye, said, “Before God and the Senegalese nation, I swear to faithfully fulfil the office of President of the Republic of Senegal.”
