A Lagos-based businessman, Aloysius Okeke, who is also the Managing Director (MD) of ALLKO Commercial Company, standing trial before the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, for drug-related offences, has filed an application urging it to issue an order unsealing his house and bank accounts since there was no order of the court to seal his house and bank accounts.
In a 33-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Mr Aloysius Okeke and filed before the court by his counsel, Chief Benson Ndakara, the deponent averred that he is the Managing Director of ALLKO Commercial Company and that the company deals in tyres at Africa Tyres Village Trade Fare, Lagos, adding that he has been in business for about 40 years.
The deponent further stated that he was arrested on January 13, 2023, and denied the allegation made against him and currently on bail, with a position that he is presently on bail.
While contending that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized his bank accounts and company without any order of the court, the deponent insisted that his firm was never dragged to the court and that no enquiry was made on it.
The deponent equally expressed his displeasure that the activities of his company were grounded as a result of the alleged action of the NDLEA, just as he made known his willingness to enter into a bond to allay the fears of the Agency and ready to provide security as required by the law.
Okeke described the alleged action of the NDLEA as unjust, even as he prayed to the court to grant his application by unsealing his house and bank accounts.
When the matter came up for hearing, his lawyer, Chief Ndakara, posited before the court, presided over by Justice Daniel Osiagor, that he had filed an application before the court to exercise discretion in favour of his client, for his accounts and house to be unsealed as the man is going through a lot of trauma.
But, the counsel for the NDLEA, Lamber Nor, argued that he had not been served with a copy of the application, and therefore, he needed time to study it when served, to be able to react to the same accordingly.
Consequently, Justice Osiagor adjourned until March 19, 2024, for the hearing of the application.
