A Federal Capital Territory High Court, presided over by Justice Olukayode Adeniyi on Wednesday granted bail to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Justice Adeniyi further directed that Emefiele be released immediately to his lawyers, who were charged with the responsibility of producing him in court for his arraignment next week or on any other day.
The former CBN boss must also deposit his travel documents before the Chief Registrar (CR) of the court, pending his arraignment, according to Justice Adeniyi.
While pointing out that there must be an end to detention without trial, Justice Adeniyi held that the court must also not overlook the fact that he has been in detention for 151 days and the Federal Government (FG) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) must abide by the order of the court.
Meanwhile, the hearing on the substantive motion on notice as well as the preliminary objection, have been adjourned until November 17, 2023.
Trouble began when President Bola Tinubu suspended him as the apex bank chief on June 9, 2023.
