Nov 14 Strike: Court Restrains NLC, TUC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) as well as their affiliates, were, on Friday, stopped from embarking on any form of strike or industrial action scheduled to commence on November 14.

The labour unions were restrained by the National Industrial Court (NIC) through its President, Justice Benedict Kanyip, following an ex-parte application brought before it by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice.

Specifically, Justice Kanyip invoked Sections 17 and 19 of the National Industrial Court Act to issue the restraining order against the labour.

In the ex-parte application, the FGN and AGF prayed to the court to stop the planned strike action to stop untold hardships that would be inflicted on innocent law-abiding citizens and their businesses.
