Melaye, Ajaka Defeated In Kogi Governorship Election, As INEC Declares Ododo Winner

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, declared the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Usman Ododo, as the winner of the November 11, 2023 Kogi State Governorship Election.

Ododo was declared winner by INEC’s Returning Officer (RO) for the state, Prof Johnson Urama, who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

In the result announced at 10:23 pm, Urama said, “Ahmed Usman Ododo of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

To emerge as the winner, Ododo polled 446,237 votes, defeating his closest rival, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 259,052, while Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 46,362 votes.
