Bayelsa Governorship Election: 'Sylva Qualified' – Appeal Court

The immediate past Minister of Petroleum, Timipreye Sylva, has been cleared for the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa State.

The former minister was cleared by the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal, which declared that the respondent in the appeal, Deme Kolomo, a member of the APC, lacked the legal right to approach the court for an order to disqualify Sylva.

Sylva is contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.

It would be recalled that Justice Donatus Okorowo of a Federal High Court, Abuja had on October 9, disqualified Sylva as candidate of the APC in the forthcoming election.

In his judgment, Justice Okorowo held that Sylva had spent more than four years in office as governor.

Kolomo, a member of the APC in the state, dragged Sylva before the court, asking it to disqualify him.
