Coup: General Tchiani steps in as Niger's head of transitional government

Following a military takeover in the Niger Republic, General Abdourahamane Tchiani was on Friday named as the new leader of the country's transitional government.

According to the state television, the Chief of the Presidential Guard was specifically named as “President of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland”, said a statement.
