The 17th Annual International Business Law Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL), is slated to commence its 17th Annual International Business Law Conference from July 5 to 7, 2023.
The event will take place at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, Nigeria.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Mrs Ayoyinka Olajide-Awosedo who said the theme of the conference is 'The Nigeria Business Landscape – Priorities of Law, Policy and Regulation', added that one of the objectives of the conference focuses on how to set an agenda to revive the economy owing to the new government in place.
According to her, “The conference will also focus on what regulations are pertinent to revive our economy to encourage investors to attract talents.
“As lawyers, there are a plethora of laws that affect the economy, and so we want to sit in the room with all the relevant stakeholders, industries, regulators, and policymakers and look at how to move our economy forward.
“Looking at the impact of technology, we will look at how Nigeria can peg herself with the developed countries.
“Outside the sessions and networking opportunities, we have a regulatory clinic, and we will be sponsoring 25 young lawyers to attend the conference”.
The Conference Planning Committee Chairman equally revealed that the conference aimed at exploring recent developments in the Nigerian Business Law environment, how it had affected businesses and what needed to be done to help businesses thrive, adding that numerous activities had been set aside to grace the Annual Conference among which is 'lawyers got talent competition' and the winner would get a cash prize.
She added that the conference will provide a platform for stakeholders in the Nigerian business environment to address the issues that affected the business environment and, by extension, businesses operating in it.
The Chairman of SBL, Dr Adeoye Adefulu, in his welcome address, posited that the council had a keen interest and has made various landmark successes in developing the economy of the country.
Adefulu, who maintained that experts from the public and private sectors, business lawyers and other stakeholders in the business law environment would converge to discuss how the regulations of the economic sector would be revived, added, “We have regular regulatory interventions we shall be working with, and we have also arranged internships programmes for lawyers with regulatory agencies as well”.
The Chairman, Program and Content Sub Committee, Mr Oludare Sembore, in his remark, said that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would be the special guest of honour and chief host while many other dignitaries around the world in the economic sector would also grace the conference.
"The NBA President, Mr Yakubu Maikyau, (SAN) and other senior members of the legal profession will also be in attendance.
“Other senior members of the bar, the bench and the chief economist from KPMG will also be in attendance.
“We shall also be having international speakers such as Dr Folashade Adeyemo, an Assistant Professor at the University of Liverpool and Dr Timi Popoola, the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Ltd are also part of the panelists,” Sembore said.
Sembore added that the conference would also focus on issues relating to agriculture, business, entertainment, and the like.
