The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arraigned a suspected street urchin, Raphael Agu, who allegedly killed another hoodlum, Stanley Ugo, over the discrepancy in the sharing formula of the illegal tax collected for building a foundation in the Ogudu area of Lagos State.
Ugo was arraigned before a Yaba Magistrates' Court, presided over by Magistrate P. E Nwaka on two counts bordering on murder by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Specifically, Agu was accused of allegedly stabbing his friend, Ugo, in the stomach with a knife on May 25, 2023, during a fight in the Ogudu area of the State.
The defendant, according to the prosecution, was given N15,000 by a developer erecting a building around the Transformer Bus Stop in the area, to share among the 'area boys', which he did.
The prosecution said the deceased and one other, after a while, came to the defendant claiming that he did not share the money equally and in the cause of the argument, a fight erupted.
It was further stated by the prosecution that in the cause of the fight, the defendant retrieved a knife and stabbed the deceased in the stomach.
Counsel for the prosecution, Thomas Nurudeen, particularly told the Magistrate that the offence contravenes Section 222, with an addition that it is punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.
The lawyer then urged the court to remand the defendant for 30 days pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
In his ruling, Magistrate Nwaka ordered the defendant to be remanded in the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.
The Magistrate also directed that the case file be duplicated and sent to the DPP for legal advice
Magistrate Nwaka adjourned the matter until July 5, 2023.
