A popular Lagos-based auto dealer, Mr Ikechukwu Ogbonna, 37, alias IVD, the husband of late Abimbola Ogbonna, 35, who died at Lekki, in a fire incident, was, today, arraigned before Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay of the High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja.
The auto dealer was arraigned by the Lagos State Government on a count charge of involuntary manslaughter in the charge designated LD/21055C/23.
Mr Ogbonna pleaded not guilty to the criminal charge, which the prosecution said is contrary to Section 229 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
While Mr Ogbonna's arraignment lasted, counsel for the prosecution, Adeshola Bello, told the judge, "There is a mix-up in the date of which the alleged offence was committed. We have on record 10th October, but the date was 12th October.”
Bello then prayed to the judge for an indulgence to make an amendment, a request, which the court granted.
On his part, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and counsel for the defence, Victor Ogunde, sought bail for the defendant.
The SAN's request was, however, queried by the judge as to why he was bringing a bail application even though the defendant had been on bail since March 1, 2023.
In response, Ogunde said that the charge against his client was with a different number.
The matter has been adjourned until March 30, May 24 and 25, 2023.
It would be recalled that the media had gone agog with the news of the late Mrs Abimbola Ogbonna, said to have died as a result of the fire incident that occurred in the couple's home on October 12, 2022.
