The Southwest Minnesota State University Marshall in the United States has signed a partnership with Nigeria's energy service provider, MOMAS Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company, aimed at providing Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degrees to the company's executives and other interested individuals.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Friday at the graduation ceremony of 150 beneficiaries of metering and electrical installations, sponsored by the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC).
The ceremony was held at the MOMAS Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company, Orimerunmu, Mowe, Ogun State.
The MoU provides for the development, collaboration, and exchange in fields of shared interest and expertise.
The course at the Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall will have students from Nigeria have access to accelerated MBA degrees after a completion of a total of 12 courses in 36 credits.
The students, according to the MoU, are expected to meet all MBA programme prerequisites prior to the start of the programme.
The representative of the Minnesota State University, U.S., Dr. Kenneth Chukwuka, said that the MoU was necessary to bridge the knowledge gap in the power sector in Nigeria.
“The reason we signed the MoU is to provide accelerated improvement in the power sector in Nigeria for the MOMAS employees to access our MBA programme.
“The programme will provide the much-needed knowledge in the value chain of the power sector to provide skilled manpower.
“The MBA will be offering choice courses that will improve the knowledge of Nigerians in practical steps in solving the energy problems and networks of practical solutions.
“The employees working will have access to technical assistance after enrolment in our university because the school is rich in resources to help in understanding the dynamics of the power sector,” he said.
The Chairman, MOMAS Electricity Meters Manufacturing Company, Engr Kola Balogun, said that the MoU was the right step in the right direction of solving the energy problems being experienced in Nigeria.
“We believe that we have done the right thing with the MoU, we need practical solutions to the energy deficit in Nigeria, and this is one of the ways in which they can be addressed.
“We as a company will continue to strive to provide the necessary solutions through our various means in addressing the challenges of the power sector in Nigeria,” Balogun added.
