Oyo deputy governor, Olaniyan, thrown out

The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, has been impeached.

Olaniyan was sacked on Monday by the Oyo State House of Assembly over allegations of misconduct.

The State House of Assembly arrived at the decision sequel to the recommendation of a seven-man investigation panel led by Justice Munta Abimbola which affirmed the allegations levelled against the deputy governor.

Twenty-three of the 32 lawmakers in the Assembly endorsed his impeachment.

It would be recalled that Olaniyan had been elected into office in 2019 with Governor Seyi Makinde under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but had a fall-out with the governor over time.
